HP ProCurve Wireless Edge Services Modul:

ProCurve Networking by HP is expanding its portfolio of high-performance WLAN solutions: With the ProCurve 5300xl Wireless Edge Services Module and the Wireless Access Point 530, ProCurve offers products that enable the joint management of wired and wireless networks. The ProCurve 5300xl Wireless Edge Services Module expands the ProCurve Switch 5300xl series of modular switches to include WLAN functions. The module can be supplemented with the new ProCurve radio ports 210, 220 and 230. The radio port 210 supports either the WLAN standards 802.11b or 802.11g (single radio) and has an integrated antenna. The radio ports 220 and 230 transmit and receive simultaneously in the WLAN standards 802.11a and 802.11g (dual radio). The radio port 230 has an internal antenna, the radio port 220 is operated with an external antenna. In addition, ProCurve is also bringing a redundant 5300xl module for high availability environments onto the market.

The also newly introduced ProCurve Wireless Access Point 530 has extensive management and security functions and prevents unauthorized access to the company network. At the same time, it supports the radio frequency bands for the WLAN standards 802.11a and 802.11b / g.

With these products, the ProCurve Adaptive EDGE architecture strategy opens up new possibilities in management and access control in combined LAN / WLAN environments. "With the new mobile solutions as well as the strong presence in the LAN area, ProCurve is well on the way to growing in the market for mobile solutions," explains Pim Bilderbeek, IDC Vice President in the area of communications consulting.

Two in one:

The new ProCurve solutions support uniform, simple and secure management of company networks. The connection from the new single and dual radio ports (210, 220, 230) and the Wireless Edge Services module enables, for example, central management of the radio frequencies used, user authentication via the web, fast roaming of the WLAN connection, Self-healing functions and the detection of unauthorized access points.

The new ProCurve Wireless Access Point 530 meets all requirements for secure wireless access to a network. Thanks to state-of-the-art security features in accordance with industry standards and integrated quality-of-service functions, it can be seamlessly integrated into existing networks. Together with the ProCurve Identity Driven Manager software, it enables identity-based access control at the edge of the network where the user logs in. Access control lists are used here, which decide on the access rights of a user based on his identity and his role in the company.

The ProCurve Wireless Access Point 530 is particularly suitable for companies with multiple locations. Thanks to integrated RADIUS authentication services, the WLAN continues to run in branch offices even if the WAN link fails. For this purpose, the necessary RADIUS data are saved on the access point as well as on the central server. If the WAN connection fails, WLAN operation can continue using this data without any loss of security.

All the solutions presented support the ProCurve Identity Driven Manager (IDM). This allows the network administrators to regulate access to the network automatically. Based on information about the user, location and time, security and performance settings can be made for all network devices. In this way, all the necessary rules are defined at a central point in order to control and secure the access points of the network via the ProCurve devices. This enables improved functionality of the network without additional resources.
